Jul Fri 2023
The 2022 National Top 100 Cultural Heritage Tourism Cases were recently unveiled, showcasing exceptional examples from Hunan Province. Among them, the Former Site of the Southern Hunan Federation of Students, which embodies the concept of “Red tourism plus”, and the fusion of Shanjiang Miao Museum with rural tourism development in Fenghuang County were recognized for their outstanding achievements.

Situated on Yuehan Road in Hengyang City, the Former Site of the Southern Hunan Federation of Students is designated as a key national cultural heritage site, making it one of the few well-preserved local memorials of student movements in China. This institution serves as a comprehensive educational base, encompassing national youth education, patriotic instruction, and Party education.

In recent years, the memorial hall has diligently tapped into the rich Red resources, effectively narrating the stories of the revolutionary era and perpetuating the spirit of that era. It has emerged as an ideal place for Party education, immersive Red-themed study trips, and Red tourism.

Nestling in the Zongbingying Community of Shanjiang Town, Fenghuang County, Shanjiang Miao Museum has been captivating visitors since its official opening in October 2002. Leveraging advanced, enigmatic, and vibrant ethnic cultural elements, the museum has seized the opportunities of tourism development, enhancing its allure, ensuring sustainable growth, and transcending the static exhibition model.

It has pioneered a novel amalgamation of “dynamic performances, process displays, and wireless expansion”, which, in synergy with the integration of the museum and tourism, has not only propelled the inheritance and preservation of intangible cultural heritage but has also invigorated the development of rural tourism.

Consequently, the museum has forged an extraordinary cultural and ecological tourism ecosystem, ushering in a new era for cultural and museum initiatives. Recognized as a distinguished “Cultural Facility of China’s New Era”, a “Popular Science Base of Hunan Province”, and an “Educational Base for Ethnic Unity and Progress of Hunan Province”, the Shanjiang Miao Museum stands as a testament to its exceptional contributions.
